ARTIST STATEMENT
Bill Reid (Canada’s Sculptor of the last century) said it all in one of his books, “What could be better than sitting in the sun carving! This is so true. To have a piece of stone on the bench and the sounds of the river in the background must be as close to Nirvana as one can get. The excitement of a project is the fuel of creativity. The stimulation of the highs and lows - disappointments and successes in the creation, is the reward. Working in the softer stone - alabasters, steatite, soapstone's, allows me to limit the use of power tools. I love the surroundings to be as quiet as possible. I enjoy using wood and ferro-cement for outdoor sculptures. The stone dictates what the subject will be in ninety percent of my pieces. I try to push myself and the stone as much as is comfortable - with Creation.
